I’ve been asked many times about the possibility to run MT4 on a Mac. The solutions were two in general: using a virtual machine software (like VMWare Fusion or Parallels) and making a windows partition (with Apple Bootcamp) and start the Mac in native Windows mode (it’s like having a regular Windows machine).
You can not run more than 1 Symbol on a chart! You can have only one EA per chart and each chart has its own Symbol. You will need to load the EA on 10 separate charts and also a good idea to have a different magic number for each as a part of your program.
Both the solutions have pros and cons: the virtual machine solution has a cost (you have to buy the software) and require quite fast machines (and with a good amount of RAM) for running smoothly. Also, as you’re installing Windows OS from scratch you also need a MSFT Windows license. The advantage is that you’ll run both Windows and Apple OS at the same time so you can work with both at the same time.
The second solution, creating a Windows HD partition and install Windows on it, has more or less the same pros/cons of the above solution but you will be running only one operative system at the time (so you choose to boot with Windows or Mac OS) but it uses all the resources so it is much better performing. You’ll need a Windows OS license for this solution as well.
There’s a third solution in reality that is my personally preferred one but it was a “geek” solution and uses a free/open source software known as “Wine”. Wine lets you run Windows software on other operating systems. With Wine, you can install and run these applications just like you would in Windows. The good news is that you don’t need to install Windows OS on your PC (saving HD space, resources and money as you won’t need any Windows License). The bad is that it doesn’t always work as some application are quite sophisticated to work with it. Also using “Wine” isn’t always that easy. But there’s a solution to that and now the steps needed to run MT4 under Mac OS are very very simple.

- Download Wine/Winebottler from here: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
- Copy “Wine” (“Winebottler” is optional) to your Application folder
- Download an MT4 installer or copy an MT4 folder to your Mac
- Run “terminal.exe” with Wine
That’s it
Wine let you run MT4 with almost everything working. Only a very few and minor functions don’t work well (push notification, news and sometimes audio).
Winebottler is needed if you want to “transform” Windows application into Mac OS ones.
